Hall of Mars

The symbolism of the four elements in the Armorial Hall continues with the stucco decoration of the Hall of Mars, symbolized by Fire. Mars was the antique god of war, which is evident from the spears and the armour. His counterpart is the naked goddess of beauty, Venus, which is a reference to the victory of Love over the Sword. Above the door to the next hall we see a boy who is drumming on wartime drums. Between the windows there are reliefs showing two pairs of boys, who are allegories of war and peace.
