Hall of Mars - The Martyrdom of St. Lawrence

The theme of the eternal dispute between love and hate is developed in Karel Josef Harringer's canvas on the subject of the Martyrdom of St. Lawrence. According to the legend, the Romans burned St. Lawrence on an iron grate for not transferring church property to the emperor, but for dividing it among the poor. This painting was originally painted for the altar in the chapel of Olomouc Town Hall.
