The reliquary of St. Eustace

On the right side of the entrance to the Treasure House is the oldest surviving item from the treasury of the Olomouc Cathedral of St. Wenceslas. It is the reliquary of St. Eustace, which originated in the mid-14th century in France. Reliquaries are boxes containing the body fragments of a dead saint or an object that is related to his life. These boxes were richly decorated and the reliquary of St. Eustace is no exception. Two-tone enamel with figures of angels proves that the box was made by goldsmiths from the French city of Limoges.

Now we will go back to the Coach House and along the newly built concrete ramp to the New Cellars. We will only descend three meters below the level of the floor, but we will move six thousand years in time.
